I am one of those parents who don’t mind to celebrate my children being another year older.ย I like to throw birthday party for my kids, though I don’t over do it.ย Perhaps, because my parents used to make birthday party for my brother and I when we were a child until about 12 years old. And the memories of my birthday parties were still fresh in my mind until now.ย That’s why I want my boys to have the same childhood memory about their birthday as well.
While I am trying to be creative every year about the party, such as the place, the goodie bags, the cake, etc sometimes for practical reason I just have to stick to the basic.ย I let the boys choose who they want to invite.ย If we have the party at home I limit the number by 12 max.ย Last year, they went to Bounce for some fun and came back to our place for pool party and food.ย This year we have it at the Bicton Bath with 16 kids attending, because it is their last year at Primary so I thought it would be nice to have more of their friends together before they go to different school next year.
Unlike most Indonesian here, I only invite the Boys’ friends because it is their birthday party so it’s only fair to invite whoever they would like to come to their party, their friends, not mummy’s friend! ๐ย I often see the way Indonesian here throwing party for their children, more their parent’s friends than the kids’ ones and the food which sometimes it’s not children party food ( not all children like fish balado or beef rendang, let’s say ) And I realized too, that I am labelled as snob, arrogant, too western, and so on because I do the party differently, but I do not care.ย It’s my children’s birthday, so they rule ๐ They should have fun on their birthday with their own friends.ย This is my personal opinion anyway. You may disagree with me ๐
On Friday on their actual birthday a big surprise came, Daddy got home that afternoon, yaaay!ย I didn’t tell them that their Dad would be home I wanted to be a surprise.ย You should see their face when they saw my husband after I picked them up from school, they leaped out of my car like a frog! ๐ย So that evening we had dinner out at the Grill’d as requested by the birthday boys.ย Then on Saturday afternoon we headed to Bicton Bath with food, drink, birthday cake, and some fun to celebrate.ย Thanks God the weather turned out to be pretty good, the wind dropped and the sun shone.ย They swam, kayaking, run, did cart-wheel, ate, and repeated.ย Their friends and them said that they had a very great time and big fun, glad to hear that!
Here are some pictures from the birthday scene ๐
the birthday cake – some people commented on my insta and other social media that it was full of sugar.ย yes it was, because you know what that’s what birthday party for! they don’t eat lollies like this every day at home.ย like adults, we have wine and beer at the party, so they are allowed sugar at the party too! plus the cake was home-made and it didn’t cover with that thick colorful icing. don’t judge please!
food was; fruits (rockmelon, grapes, and strawberry) mini quiches, sausage-rolls, chicken strips, chips, water and fruit juice.ย simple that i just need to throw them all in the oven (not for the fruits though) and put them all in foil to keep them warm.
behind every successful party there’s a happy mothers tee-hee… ๐
thorn between three roses hahaha!
crowding over the lollies on birthday cake, like a crows! ๐ and that was the fun part!
happy 11th boys!
Thank you everyone for the wishes on their birthday, it’s much appreciated.ย Now that the party is over, we are back to our normal routine again.ย Hubby also back to commute, I just dropped him off at the airport this morning.ย For Perthians, enjoy the Monday off today and for the rest of you have a good week!
